For best results, adjust for time periods – the average number of data points Excel determines where each position on the trendline is located. If you have some rather confusing data, consider using the option “Moving average” to help you get a better picture of the overall trend. This option is best for datasets where the points more or less fall on a straight line. It only shows a line of best fit, or the rate at which something is increasing or decreasing.
